Terms
Last updated 19 Oct 2026
These are the terms for Our Shelf, the app and this website, made by Cy-Sec Awareness and Consultancy Ltd ("we"). By using either you agree to them. They are short on purpose.
The app
The app is licensed to you under Apple's standard End User Licence Agreement for apps on the App Store, which you accept when you download it. These terms add to it; where they differ, these apply to the extent Apple's allow.
What it is. Our Shelf keeps a record of the books your household owns and who has read them, and suggests what to read next from your own shelves. It is a record of what you tell it; it does not sell books, and a wishlist link opens a shop in Safari that is nothing to do with us.
Your data is yours. Everything you put in stays on your devices and in your own iCloud. We have no copy. Our Privacy page says what little leaves your phone and why. You are responsible for your iCloud account and for who you invite into your household.
Paying. The free plan is limited (currently 50 books and one household member). The paid plan is a yearly subscription or a one-off lifetime purchase, bought through Apple and governed by Apple's terms. Prices are shown in the app in pounds sterling. A subscription renews until you cancel it in your Apple account settings; cancel at least a day before renewal to avoid the next charge. Refunds are handled by Apple under its rules. We may change prices for new purchases with notice in the app.
Book data. Covers, descriptions and other book details come from Google Books and Open Library and may be wrong or missing. We do not promise accuracy, and you can correct a book in the app.
Affiliate links. Some shop links in the Wishlist may earn us a commission. This never changes which shops appear, their order, or the price you pay.
Children. The app is set up and managed by an adult. A child's details in a household are limited to a first name or nickname and an age band.
Changes and ending. We may change the app, add or remove features, or stop offering it. If we stop, your books stay in your iCloud and the app keeps working on your device as long as iOS allows. You can stop using it at any time; Delete everything in Settings removes your data.
The website
The website is for finding out about Our Shelf and getting support. You may not use it to send spam through the waiting-list form, probe it for weaknesses without asking us first (write to us; we welcome responsible reports), or copy its content for a competing product.
The usual
We provide the app and the website as they are. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from using them, and our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the past twelve months. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer in the UK.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to its courts, without affecting your right to bring a claim in your home nation of the UK.
